What I learned from Dreamforce 2024 in San Francisco.

At Dreamforce 2024, right in the bustling heart of San Francisco, we witnessed the unveiling of something remarkable: Agentforce—an AI agent that does more than just help. It knows your business, thinks, reasons, takes action, and scales. In short, it’s your business's new best friend—one that doesn’t need coffee breaks or time off!

From Chatbots to Copilots to Agentforce: The Evolution

We started with chatbots (you know, the "press 1 for customer service" ones), moved to copilots that are smarter (think, “Hey Einstein, where’s my order?”), and now... here we are with Agentforce. Imagine an AI that not only answers your questions but understands your business goals and acts on them. It’s like hiring a superhuman that never sleeps!

It’s All About the Data (With Zero Copy!)

It all starts with the Data Cloud, pulling in structured and unstructured data from everywhere—without needing to make copies (because who has time for extra copies?). Then, this data gets processed by Customer 360, where your marketing, service, and sales systems live happily together. And from there? Agentforce comes in, using this wealth of data to take actions that matter, all in real-time.

These AI agents are designed to augment your team, allowing them to focus on the bigger picture. For example, Wiley, reduced their routine case load by 40%, letting their team tackle more complex issues during peak seasons.

Security's always a big deal, and Salesforce knows it. That’s why Agentforce is built on the Einstein Trust Layer—think of it as your AI bodyguard. It ensures everything is safe and reliable, using guardrails, toxicity detection, and observability models. You get all the smarts of AI without any of the drama.

Here’s where it gets fun. Picture this: you're at Disney, and you want to visit Galaxy’s Edge (because who wouldn’t want to meet a Wookie?). Agentforce not only tells you if it’s crowded but suggests other spots you might like if the lines are too long.     It all starts with data—structured or unstructured, articles or complex datasets. Salesforce has mastered the art of storing it in the Data Cloud. The beauty? It operates with Zero Copy, meaning your data can stay right where it is without unnecessary duplication. This is a huge deal!

  2. Atlas Reasoning Engine
    Enter Atlas, the brain behind the operation. Once the data is retrieved from the cloud, Atlas steps in to plan, evaluate, and refine what it finds. This is where things get interesting. Agentforce isn’t just a fancy lookup tool—it learns from each interaction and applies that learning to future decisions. Think of it as your AI agent who knows your business inside out, and it keeps getting better the more it works with your data. Atlas is like your business strategist, only it doesn’t take weekends off.

  3. Customer 360 & Actions
    Now, once the data is processed and decisions are made, it’s time for action. Agentforce connects with Customer 360 apps and channels, allowing it to perform tasks like a true business partner. Need real-time updates for your customers? Automated workflows? Done and done. It’s like having an AI concierge at every corner of your business, ready to serve and adapt. Remember the Saks example? Sophia, the AI agent, helps customers with their shopping, knowing their preferences and needs without even having to ask twice.

  4. Outcomes & Continuous Learning
    Finally, once the tasks are completed, the results feed right back into the Atlas Engine, ensuring continuous improvement. It’s an elegant feedback loop. Every customer interaction makes the system smarter, faster, and more reliable. That’s the beauty of AI at scale—always learning, always evolving.
